SUNNY ISLES BEACH THE CITY OF SUN AND SEA

The City of Sunny Isles Beach, a unique Florida coastal city with 30% of it being water, had recently inaugurated Gateway Park. The park is an urban green public space offering year-round cultural, entertainment, fitness events, as well as passive recreation to the community. The ground floor of the parking garage structure, intended for restaurants tenant, remained unleased after two years. We were asked to re-envisioned and re-programmed the floor as a multipurpose community space.

Addressing the community’s multi-generational and multi-cultural needs, Gateway Center’s diverse programming will activate 16,000 SF of social gathering spaces to include classrooms, fitness rooms, café, retail store, demonstration kitchen, pre-function area and banquette hall.

As a community center during day, and special events space during the evening, the City Commissioner’s goal is to offer an affordable yet high quality alternative to the nearby Yacht Club and local Hotels for social interactions and to mark life’s celebrations. The design of the spaces must allow for this day-to-night transformation.
